They were without starting right guard Alex Cappa against the Colts, so Earl Watford got the start in his place. The Big Boys – The Bucs offensive line has been pretty solid for most of the season. He’s thrown 2+ interceptions in 7 games, 2+ touchdowns in 8 games and had 300+ yards in 9 games. He now has 4,115 yards, 26 touchdowns and 23 interceptions this year. He threw passes to nine different receivers in this game with his four touchdowns going to four different players, and six of his receivers had 48 yards or more. And he is now the ONLY quarterback in NFL history to throw 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, run for a touchdown AND pass for more than 400 yards in a game. It was the seventh 4th quarter comeback of his career. Just a couple of other interesting side notes on Winston’s performance Sunday. Lynn Dickey did it in 1983, and Drew Brees did it in 2012. He could end up pulling off a rare feat by leading the NFL in passing yards, passing touchdowns, AND interceptions. He’s now tied for 2nd with Russell Wilson for touchdown passes (26) behind Lamar Jackson (28). He’s on pace for more than 5,000 yards this season and could end up being the first QB in history to change teams after doing so.īecause of his performance on Sunday, Winston is now just 7 yards behind passing leader Dak Prescott with three games remaining. Of the four 4,000 yard seasons in Buccaneers’ history, Winston has three of them. It also puts him over the 4,000-yard mark for the season. It was the most passing yards by a Buccaneers quarterback in 31 years and the 3rd most yards by a Bucs QB in franchise history behind Doug Williams (486) and Vinnie Testaverde (469). His 456 yards were the most ever by a Buccaneer quarterback in a home game. Against the Colts, he was 33 for 45 for 456 yards with 4 passing touchdowns, a rushing touchdown, and 3 interceptions. It’s feast or famine with him, and n ot much in between. The Franchise – The frustrating thing about Jameis Winston is that his good is really good, but his bad is also really bad. Sunday against the Colts, he had 3 catches for 70 yards and the go-ahead touchdown with about 4-minutes left in the game. In these last 3 games, he’s had 9 catches for 201 yards and a touchdown. In the first 10 games this season, he totaled just 10 catches for 95 yards and a touchdown. The Other Guy – Breshad Perriman has really stepped up over the last few weeks. I’ve always liked this kid and thought that he should have a bigger role in this offense than he has had so far this season, and now he will with Mike Evans likely out for the rest of the year. He had also taken over the punt returner duties since TJ Logan’s season is now over. One of those guys was second-year receiver Justin Watson, who finished the game with 5 catches for 59 yards and a touchdown after having just two career catches going into this game. The Next Man – When Mike Evans got hurt in the first quarter, other receivers had to take on bigger roles. This win also broke a streak of 29 straight losses in games where the Bucs trailed by at least 8 points. Coincidentally, the 38-35 final score was the exact same score of the “Great Collapse” game against the Peyton Manning lead Colts in 2003. Across the NFL this season, teams are 3-33 when -3 in the turnover battle. They are 4-101 in franchise history when they were -3 in the turnover battle. They’ve lost 26 of their last 27 games where they’ve been -3 or worse in the turnovers. The Bucs lost the turnover battle 4 to 1 in this game (Winston’s 3 interceptions and Dare Ogunbowale’s fumble ). This is the first time they’ve won three straight since 2016 when they won five in a row. The Win – As I said before, this was the Bucs third win in a row and fourth in their last five games. So let’s get into it, shall we? THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY Unfortunately, there was some “ BAD” and “UGLY” in it too. Feels good, doesn’t it? Speaking of “GOOD”, there was plenty of it to go around in this game. For those of you who aren’t used to this, which is probably most Bucs fans, this is called a winning streak. The win is their third in a row and fourth in their last five games. The Buccaneers improved to 6-7 for the season after winning a hard-fought game against the Colts 38-35 in Raymond James Stadium on Sunday.
